Photography is very lonesome act, the photographer, and nobody else, has to decide on "when" and "what" (famous "instant décisif" by HCB). This rather sad statement can only be balanced by an uncontrollable need to show his pictures.
When it can be done, the resulting feeling is terribly powerful : someone can see through your very own eyes.
This feeling is expressed in Saint Augustin's epitaph "You are reading these words, but I am the one who is thinking them, and now your voice becomes somehow my voice".
When it works, it's so powerful.
But sometimes it doesn't work. Not good enough, you missed a detail, some lack of balance prevents .
Here is the photographer's work : analyse the origin of the failure and learn, little by little, to improve technical know how first, to control the transcription of what is seen.
He needs, then, to improve his patience which is the only way to wait for the "instant décisif" identified by the sharpness of his look.
So, there is no other way for the artist than to challenge himself in order to progress, find the essential strength in successful instants, granted to him, without being dazzled by them.
